Using data from the German Tax Advisors' Chamber, Accountable has analyzed how many tax advisors are available across the 100 largest German cities — revealing just how unevenly distributed access to tax advice really is.
Salzgitter comes in last with just two tax advisors per 10,000 residents, far below the national average of around 13. The situation is similarly strained in Zwickau, Marl, Herne, and Wolfsburg. Notably, not a single East German city reaches the national average.
At the top of the ranking sits Düsseldorf with 46 tax advisors per 10,000 residents, followed by Stuttgart with 33 and Munich with around 30. For the self-employed in underserved areas, Accountable founder Tino Keller says this translates to one thing above all: long wait times, limited choice — and an increasing need to turn to digital alternatives.
