To help you with this, this article summarizes all the steps to complete the registration form.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-are-the-requirements-for-registering-a-gewerbe\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">What are the requirements for registering a Gewerbe?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In Germany, no permit is required to conduct a Gewerbe (business). Anyone can engage in commercial activities. The only mandatory step is to notify the authorities, meaning the Finanzamt (finance office), that you are setting up a business. This is known as Gewerbeanmeldung (business registration).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">They simply check whether you fulfil the basic requirements &#8211; such as being of legal age, having legal capacity and what kind of business you want to run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">Specific requirements exist only for certain businesses where you need to prove your qualifications to practice the Gewerbe. This applies to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-disc list-outside ml-0 mb-4 space-y-2\">\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Regulated crafts (master craftsman certificate or similar qualification)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Care services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Insurance brokers and intermediaries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Taxi or freight transport businesses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Driving schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Hospitality businesses and arcades<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Trade with animals, weapons, ammunition, and explosives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Security services and debt collection agencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Labour leasing and freelance bookkeeping assistants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In these cases, a permit from the authority is required to conduct the Gewerbe. With the granted permit, you are allowed to pursue the business. Such a permit from the authority is also known as a &#8220;concession.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udca1 <strong>Tip from Accountable:<\/strong> If you want to become self-employed with your own business, you must also fill out the &#8220;Questionnaire for Tax Registration&#8221; in addition to the business registration. This can be done in person, in writing, and sometimes online. However, personal registration can be advantageous, as any potential questions can be clarified directly in this case. You can also present an ID document and any necessary permits directly at the registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">The fees for business registration are not uniformly regulated nationwide. However, they usually range between 20 and 65 euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">You can complete the registration form using our following guide. If there is a business designation, you can additionally specify this in parentheses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">If a Handelsregister (commercial register) or Genossenschaftsregistereintrag (cooperative register entry) exists, you must also enter the location and number of the register in field 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">If the name of your business differs from your entries in field 1, you can specify your exact business designation additionally in field 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"personal-information-fields-4-11\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Personal information (Fields 4-11)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In these fields, you must provide information about your identity. This serves as a possible reliability check. The information includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-disc list-outside ml-0 mb-4 space-y-2\">\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your name and first name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your gender<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your birth name in case of a name change (e.g., due to marriage)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your date of birth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your place and country of birth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your nationality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Optionally your phone number, email address, and website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"information-about-the-business-fields-12-14\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Information about the business (Fields 12-14)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">For partnerships and legal entities, you must specify the number of managing partners or legal representatives in field 12. You can leave this field blank if you want to register a business as a Einzelunternehmer (sole trader).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In field 13, you must check whether there is public sector involvement in the business. Public sector involvement exists if it is a company in which the federal government, states, or municipalities hold capital shares or have votes in the management\/administrative body of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In field 14, you must specify the authorized representative for your business. This information is omitted for Aktiengesellschaften\u00a0 (public limited companies). For branches or dependent branches, the authorized representative must also be specified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"addresses-of-your-business-fields-15-17\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Addresses of your business (Fields 15-17)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In field 15, you enter the address of your business. General statements are not sufficient (example: &#8220;Trade with goods&#8221;). However, the following types of descriptions are permissible: wholesale trade with pet food, electronics retail, furniture restoration, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In the next two fields, you state whether you carry out the business full-time or part-time and the date when you will start the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In field 21, you specify the type of operation your business is in, and in field 22, the employees at the start of the business must be entered. This field must always be filled out, even if you do not employ any staff or this is still unknown. In this case, you simply enter a 0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"further-information-about-your-gewerbe-fields-23-27\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Further information about your Gewerbe (Fields 23-27)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">In fields 23 to 27 you must provide information on the type of business (e.g. boat builder) and whether it is a new business, a takeover or a reopening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"information-about-special-permits-fields-28-31\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Information about special permits (Fields 28-31)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">If your business requires licences or permits (e.g. trade licence or business permit), these and their existence must be entered here. You must also enter whether you have a residence permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"date-and-signature-fields-32-and-33\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Date and Signature (Fields 32 and 33)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, you must enter the date of the day you fill out the application and personally sign the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"gewerbe-registration-what-happens-next\" class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\">Gewerbe registration &#8211; What happens next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black wp-block-paragraph\">You see, registering a business is not particularly difficult.
