{"id":10058,"date":"2025-12-29T12:41:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T11:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.accountable.de\/help-center\/how-can-i-edit-a-locked-expense\/"},"modified":"2026-10-03T03:30:43","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T01:30:43","slug":"how-can-i-edit-a-locked-expense","status":"publish","type":"help_center","link":"https:\/\/www.accountable.de\/en\/help-center\/how-can-i-edit-a-locked-expense\/","title":{"rendered":"How can I edit a locked expense?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>Forgot an expense or recorded it incorrectly after submitting your VAT pre-submission?<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">In some cases, you can add or edit an expense afterwards without submitting a correction:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">You forgot an expense and want to add it<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">You want to change an expense, and the change doesn&#8217;t affect the VAT amount (for example, you selected the wrong category or VAT period)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>Important: when you need to correct your VAT pre-submission instead<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>Forgotten or incorrect income<\/b> must always be corrected by resubmitting your VAT pre-submission.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>Incorrect expenses<\/b> must also be corrected by resubmitting if the mistake means you paid too little VAT, for example, because too much input VAT was claimed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/help.accountable.eu\/en\/articles\/6867634-can-i-correct-a-vat-return-that-was-already-submitted\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link font-inter\">Here<\/a> you&#8217;ll find step-by-step instructions on how to correct and resubmit a VAT pre-submission.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>Already submitted your annual VAT return?<\/b> It replaces your VAT pre-submissions at the tax office. In this case, please correct the annual VAT return.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h1 class=\"font-degular\" id=\"h_ac612355cd\">Here&#8217;s how to edit or add an expense\/revenue:<\/h1>\n<h2 class=\"font-degular\" id=\"h_a207af852e\"><b>Step 1: Unlock the VAT pre-submission<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">On the Taxes screen, go to the relevant VAT pre-submission. If you can&#8217;t find it, click &#8220;Show all xxxx&#8221; in the top-right corner to see all of them again. You&#8217;re not making a new payment, and the original payment is already recorded. <\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">If you really need to resubmit your VAT pre-submission and the amount to pay or to be refunden changes accordingly, <a href=\"https:\/\/help.accountable.eu\/en\/articles\/6867634-can-i-correct-a-vat-return-that-was-already-submitted\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link font-inter\">please check out our article around how to correct a VAT pre-submission. <\/a><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">Accountable has now recalculated the VAT pre-submission, including the documents you just added or changed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">The input VAT from expenses you added later will be taken into account in your annual VAT return at the end of the year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><i>Whether it makes sense in your case to correct the VAT pre-submission instead can only be assessed by a tax advisor.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>Important note on the tax guarantee<\/b><br \/>After adding or editing an expense without resubmitting, you&#8217;ll see a note that your VAT pre-submission is not guaranteed.
