Taking a taxi for a professional trip? Good news: that ride is deductible as a business expense. And Uber, Bolt and the like simply count as taxis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When is a taxi ride deductible?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As always: you must be able to prove the professional nature<\/strong> of the ride. A taxi to the airport for a business trip, a ride to a client, or from the station to a conference? Those are business expenses. The ride home after dinner with friends? That\u2019s private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u26a0\ufe0f Careful: taxi rides are an easy trap during a tax audit. When in doubt, briefly note why you took the ride, so you\u2019re well prepared if questions come up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much is deductible? 75%, not 100%<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For income tax, you deduct 75%<\/strong> of your taxi costs. The VAT can be reclaimed at 100%<\/strong>, provided you have a valid invoice with your own VAT number on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always download your invoices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With Uber, it\u2019s best to create a business profile<\/strong> in the app (it\u2019s free, using your work email address). That way you keep business and private rides neatly separated, link your business payment card and indicate when booking that it\u2019s a business ride. Afterwards, you download the invoice for your ride in the app or via riders.uber.com. Do check that your company details and VAT number are on it, because you need those to reclaim the VAT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can even automatically forward your invoices to Accountable<\/a> via an email forward. Taking a classic taxi? Then always ask for a VAT receipt or invoice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
